I-School Loses at the Buzzer to Wasatch Academy

Lehi, Utah- A positive first impression usually makes for a great experience and the fireworks on the first night of the Holiday Hoopfest gives me the indication that Lehi High School is going to be home to some very good high school basketball over the next couple of days.

I-School of Lewisville lost 48-46 on a putback dunk at the buzzer against Wasatch Academy, an EYBL Scholastic program out of Mount Pleasant, Utah.

A very physical and sloppily refereed game at times, I-School overcame an early deficit and went in to halftime up 30-26.

Wasatch Academy extended it’s pressure in the second half, forcing I-School in to costly turnovers, including a critical half court violation. Chipping away at the lead in the 3rd and in to the 4th, Wasatch would tie the game on a three by junior Katrelle Harmon with 1:37 to go in the game.

Harmon would go to the line for Wasatch with 36.9 seconds remaining and convert both free throws giving his team the two point lead.

After a timeout, I-School responded with a beautiful drive and finish by senior and Tulsa signee Jaylen Lawal. With time winding down, Wasatch missed a jump shot to win the game but in one motion senior Augustine Ekwe snagged the offensive rebound and finished with a two-hand dunk on an I-School defender as the buzzer sounded.

Even with the loss, I-School Head Coach Bryan Nwelwue was positive on his team’s performance. “I think we played hard enough to give ourselves a chance to win but we had some breakdowns offensively and defensively that hurt us. It was a game we prepared to win. I think it will be a good learning experience for us moving forward. We still have more local, national, and nationally ranked teams on the schedule to compete against.”

The Holiday Hoopfest, run by Glenn Smith, will be at Lehi High School Friday and Saturday with local Dallas-Fort Worth teams, I-School, Fort Worth Eastern Hills, Faith Family (girls) and Duncanville High School participating.

Duncanville will matchup Saturday night against Utah Prep and #1 overall player and BYU signee AJ Dybantsa.

I'm Charles, at this point I think my love for basketball has to be classified as an obsession, possibly an addiction. My pops put the ball in my hand and I've yet to put it down, just changed lanes a couple of times. I started scouting in 2014 and wrote on every major player from the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex from 2014-2020. I took a 6 year hiatus but hear I am, back courtside with my pen and my notebook.
