Dynamic Prep has had quite the week. After a defeat of ESPN #1 overall Link Academy, Jermaine Oneal’s prep school was named #9 in ESPN’s top 10 team ranking. And now, On3’s #1 overall player, Ryan Hampton, has transferred in from South Central Prep in Oklahoma.
“We wanted to put Ryan in a program that knows his value, understands who he is and who he wants to be. Everyone is on the same page from top to bottom. Everyone on the team at Dynamic Prep is like minded and trying to get to a goal. The players have team goals and personal goals,” said Rod Hampton, Ryan’s father. “Who better in Dallas to play for than Jermaine O’neal. He’s been successful on all levels of basketball and Ryan is back home. Ryan has been to Australia with his older brother RJ (Hampton), he has been to Miami, Denver and he’s paid the price for his family, now it’s all about him. We wanted to find somewhere that had his best interest at heart, and Dynamic Prep is that program. Jermaine has set the precedent, Faith Family has set the precedent for prep schools in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.”
Ryan immediately brings perimeter scoring to Dynamic. Prior to departing South Central Prep, in Oklahoma the sophomore was averaging 27 points per game. When the offense breaks down, Hampton is able to put pressure on the defense from outside or getting to the cup in isolation situations.
“Transferring had nothing to do with basketball, Ryan is going to be a great basketball player, but when other influences other than basketball affect a 15-16 year old kid you have to look at the situation,” said Rod Hampton. “When the infrastructure breaks down and the trust is lost, you have to do something.”
Hampton’s inbound transfer is just in time for this upcoming weekend’s matchup at the Main Event in Miami, Florida against ESPN #6 Columbus (FL) and the Duke bound Boozer twins.
