The 2024 Pangos All-South Frosh/Soph camp always delivers on finding the next wave of recruitable prospects and this past weekend was no different. Rising freshman and sophomores from 17 states made Duncanville, Texas their weekend home in hopes of being seen by regional and national evaluators.
The Top 30 All-Star game was loaded with talent and 2027 lead guard 6’1 Reese Alston (Second Baptist Houston, TX) was the best of the bunch. Alston is a point guard’s point guard. Tight handle and always surveying the floor, the son of basketball legend Rafer Alston, makes plays and he makes them look easy. Quickness, pace and burst subdue even the best defenders while having a smooth jumper. He looks the part of a seasoned guard already, but he’s just scratching the surface. He led his black team to an 83-71 win and took home Most Outstanding Player Honors. He ended the game with 13 points, 3 assists, and 4 boards and going 3-3 from behind the ark.
Joining him in official camp superlatives were 2027 6’8 Zander Pruzinsky (Frisco Memorial, TX) and 2027 6’7 combo forward Galen Roberts (Midtown Atlanta, GA) they were named co-MVP’s. Pruzinsky is a developing post player who tries to dunk every ball near the rim. He is a pass-first point guard’s dream and even showed potential to be the occasional pick and pop player, with work of course.
A-Town’s Roberts is only scratching the surface. Long and super athletic, he can play either forward spot taking advantage of smaller players and blowing by bigger defenders. But what I like about him most is his competitive streak bordering mean. He’s one you list under ‘don’t trash talk’ on the scouting report.
There were several lead guards who played well, 2027 5’11 Isaak Hayes (North Crowley, TX), 2027 6′ Jet Naegele (Trinity Christian Lubbock, TX), 2027 6’1 Christopher ‘Deuce’ Hunt (Duncanville, TX), 2027 6’1 Brandon Lohmann (Liberty Christian, Argyle, TX), and 2027 6’3 Brodrick Wyatt (Legacy School of Sports Sciences, TX).
The combo and wing guards who impressed were 2027 6’5 Zylan Bernard (Denton Ryan, TX), 2027 6’2 Amare Johnson (TACA Storm, TX), 2027 6’3 Cadarian Urine (Rowlett, TX), 2028 Jax Sharum (Lewisville, TX), 2027 6’6 Malachi Booker (St. John’s Houston, TX), 2028 6’4 Nehemiah Davis (Lewisville, TX), 2027 6’3 Dylan Franklin (Crandall, TX),and 2027 6’3 Avery Houston (Dynamic Prep, TX).
Forwards were 2027 6’7 Tristan Coleman (Nolan Catholic, TX), 2027 6’5 Jonathan Cayetano (Port Neches, TX), 2027 6’8 Steven McLeod (Grand Prairie, TX), 2028 6’7 Carter Coleman (Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma) and 2027 6’7 Dawson Battie (St. Marks, TX).
Post Players 2028 6’9 Xavier Young (Lewisville,TX), 2028 6’9 Terrell Jackson (Dallas Carter), 2029 6’9 Alex Alexander (Dallas St. Anthony’s), 2027 6’9 David Baliraine (Hallsville, TX) and 6’8 2027 James McCall-Spears (Lakeview Centennial, TX) should all be on your watch list.
