Thanksgiving Hoopfest Recruiting Notebook

The Thanksgiving Hoopfest has seen 85 plus McDonald’s All-Americans and hundreds of D1 athletes play in Sandra Meadows Arena. This year’s version of the Hoopfest is no different, Houston signee Kingston Flemings did not have his best shooting weekend but the guard showed just how much he can affect winning with a 13 assist game against McDonald’s chair and Joe Wooten’s Bishop O’Connell squad and then an eye opening 14 assist , 15 rebound performance against 2025 6’4 guard Brayden Burries and nationally ranked Roosevelt (CA). Flemings currently has Brennan ranked in the top 10 in the country and makes his teammates 2026 6’5 Donovan Criss, 2026 6′ Talon Todd, and 2025 6’4 Camden Cowgill looking like the high school version of the Splash Brothers. It’s simple, Flemings deserves to be a burger boy, oh, and you better close out on his teammates properly.

Another guard who made a strong case for the McDonald’s game was Brayden Burries of Roosevelt (CA). Burries is a consistent scorer who makes it seem like defenders aren’t there. He can shoot from outside, but also has the patience and triple threat game that leaves the defense at his mercy.

2025 6’1 guard Mikey Williams (Germantown, MS) is the son of retired NBA scoring guard, Mo Williams, and next year he will go play for his dad at Jackson State. The SWAC will be Williams’ playground for as long as he’s there. You cannot stop his relentless scoring ability. He comes at you from different angles, uses the change of speed, and is a knock down shooter.

Keller had a rough start to the season, only having one two games, but getting your point guard back will change a lot. Senior 6’2 Luke Fabian played in his first game of the year and the lefty guard picked up right where he ended last season. Fabian has a tight handle, the ability to make plays, nice shooting touch and sneaky bounce. In my opinion, he’s a D1 guard who deserves a serious look from programs looking to grab a steal.

Arlington Martin is a young unit led by 2027 6’2 guard Aiden Grace. He put up 24 points and 8 rebounds in an early game against Frisco Lonestar. Somewhat of a volume shooter, Grace knocked down 4 triples.

Frisco Lonestar arguably has the best QB in the state on their team in, Trey Wright. Wright isn’t your typical defensive minded football player, he can hoop and showcased his athleticism and ability to affect the game in multiple ways. 2027 6’2 Quincy Baker showed a sweet shooting touch and knack for getting to the cup, and 2028 Justin Harper went 4-9 from three in their 64-55 win.

Allen’s entire senior group deserved recognition, Trent Pane, The Shannon Twins, and Nehemiah Lawrence provide the cohesiveness and stability while super athletic junior Nnamdi Ubuwike plays the sixth man role. I’m very surprised the 5’10 Pane was not an early signee as he is one of the best guards in the Lonestar state. Lawrence, diminutive in stature, makes sure everything is running as it should and has mastered finding open players. Antonio Shannon and Antoine Shannon bring the hard hats and when they both get going from behind the arc it’s going to be a very long day for opposing defenses.

Bishop O’Connell’s 2026 5’10 guard Darius Bivins is a prototype DMV area guard with a tight-crafty handle, lateral quickness, straight line speed with a consistent jump shot. Bivins was un-guardable all weekend and is already on the national radar.

Duncanville didn’t win a game on the weekend, but TCU signee Kayden “Bugg” Edwards had another 40 ball in a surprising overtime loss to Bella Vista’s post grad team.

Dynamic Prep is loaded with talent, but it was the bench who won the game for them against former ESPN #1 overall Link Academy. Senior Carlsheon Young hit huge back to back three pointers and senior 6’6 forward Xavier Roberson provided rebounding, defense, and won several 50-50 balls. Sophomore Avery Huston had his best game of the season, going on personal 5-0 run capping it off with a breakaway dunk.

Little Rock Christian’s 2026 6’5 wing JJ Andrews has one of the best physiques in all of high school basketball. The lefty is relied upon by his team to do it all and that he did. Not his best shooting performance (3-10 from 3) in a game against Dakari Spear and the Colony, Andrews still finished with 30 points. His ability to play through contact is there and he’s a consistent jump shot away from moving in to that top 10 spot nationally.

The Colony junior 6’4 Dakari Spear will be playing basketball for a very long time, the top 25 prospect made the next jump in his development and has accepted the ‘big dog’ role. Leading his team to a 15 point comeback win over Germantown(MS), Spear scored 40 while being face guarded, harassed and double teamed. Teammate and friend 2026 6’5 forward Bryce Dixon, does the dirty work for The Colony while rebounding, scoring from the mid range and hitting the occasional catch and shoot three.

Mansfield Timberview has been a basketball factory for the last decade and 2026 point guard Jonathan Williams looks to be next in line. The 5’10 guard is lightning quick, very good at attacking the paint to find open players or score off of two feet.

Frisco Memorial has a lot of young pieces but 2027 interior forward Xander Prozinsky is proving to be it’s most valuable piece. The 6’9 big man patrols the paint blocking and changing shots, rebounds out his area, and finishes everything he can with a dunk.

College coaches, you have missed the mark on 6’5 senior Roman Miller from Moore (OK). In a game against Lancaster and their twin towers, Miller put an exclamation mark on the win with a one hand tomahawk over both bigs. He can score from all three levels and takes elite competition on as a challenge. Miller ended the game with 25 points.

Calvary Baptist (LA) 2027 6’1 guard Tyrone Jamison started the first half of his game against Rowlett with a poor shooting performance, however where many players of his ability would shot hunt, Jamison locked in defensively, was extremely affective in breaking down the press, and got his team going. In the second half his shot returned and he looked every bit of a playmaking scorer.

Rowlett’s 2027 6’5 Cadarian Urine showed flashes of what he could be. Right now, Urine is a slasher with an occasional three ball. I believe with more consistency and a plan when he’s on offense, the sophomore has the tools and frame to exploit mismatches, draw double teams and be a very good catch and shoot threat.

Plano East senior and Texas State signee DJ Hall has his team undefeated and put on a master class from the mid post and short corner for his team. Looking to have added an inch or two to his frame, his ability to do it all and connect the offense will have his team in the hunt for a state title once again.

Charles Campbell

I'm Charles, at this point I think my love for basketball has to be classified as an obsession, possibly an addiction. My pops put the ball in my hand and I've yet to put it down, just changed lanes a couple of times. I started scouting in 2014 and wrote on every major player from the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex from 2014-2020. I took a 6 year hiatus but hear I am, back courtside with my pen and my notebook.
